In the most recent season, the area planted with raw materials for Ambrosia® Water Chestnuts was reduced by one third in comparison to the season before. A lot of our water chestnuts grew to unacceptable sizes for the canning process as a result of the abnormally high amount of rainfall that occurred during harvest season.

  • As a result of both the shortage and the reported rise in demand for fresh water chestnuts in China over the course of the previous year, there is a very limited supply of raw material available for processing.
  • According to a variety of sources, prices have remained at exorbitant levels throughout the season due to the recovery from the pandemic, which has led to an increase in demand; in addition, there has been a lack of raw materials.

As a result, there is no inventory accessible. Although it is too soon to tell for sure, it is predicted that new water chestnut raw material will be available for canning around the end of November or the beginning of December. Although costs will likely decrease somewhat, they will not be anywhere like as affordable as in years past.
